Founder's story

While those who know us, know the story, here's a little catch-me-up for our more recent community members.

As the founders of Hope House, we would like to personally thank you for coming along with us on our exciting Hope House journey!

~ Mike & Gillian Foster

We have lived on the Sunshine Coast for nearly all our lives, and it has been good to us. It's where we raised our family and established our businesses.

However, over the last few years, we have noticed significant changes in our community. It seems like a 'perfect storm' has emerged, affecting many people. The rising cost of living, the challenge of finding affordable housing and significant rent increases, were all combining to create a significant crisis. This crisis had disproportionately affected women who were already experiencing very high levels of domestic violence and mental health issues.

We saw the mounting pressures weren’t just affecting the most vulnerable people on the Coast but were sweeping up women who had never sought help or support before in their life. We watched as some of the women we knew were swept up in this crisis and we felt we could no longer stand by and do nothing.

The Sunshine Coast had been so good to us. We felt it was our turn to give back and so the Not For Profit, Hope House Espresso was born.

Our mission

"Giving hope to women in crisis and their families."

Since our launch, we have been able to offer support to hundreds of women! Your coffee purchases and donations have made it possible to help people like Angela (name changed), who approached Hope House as a last resort.

"During a very difficult time in my life, I reached out to Hope House for help. They were amazing. They helped me with a very difficult legal situation; provided counselling and support to me emotionally. They sent letters on my behalf to organisations that could help me with childcare. I don’t know what I would have done without them!"

Sadly, Angela is just one of the many women in our community that are at risk of falling through the cracks.

Hope House provides counselling and referrals to charity partners and resource providers as needed. With the help of many volunteers and donors, Hope House has developed supportive resources for clients.

Some of these include the Hope House Community Support Resource guide which contains information on accessing cheap groceries and free meals and other vital resource information.

Our Hope House Essential Bags are provided to women in immediate crisis situations.

These are given to women who are struggling and need encouragement.

Depending on the needs of our clients’ other specific practical help can be provided.

ALL our services are provided free of charge and can be accessed here.

Support our community

As a registered charity, Hope House is powered by love → your love! Thanks to generous supporters, we've helped hundreds of women to flee violence

Building Community

There is a huge need in our society for people to ‘connect’. The “State of the Nation 2023 Report” found almost 1 in 3 Australians feel lonely.

Loneliness is an epidemic which particularly affects women.

Hope House seeks to solve this by providing ways for women to build connection.

Whether it’s over a coffee, through volunteering, attending a Hope House women’s workshop/event or through being a part of our very own mums club, women can connect in a welcoming and safe environment.

The Mum Club

It takes a village to raise a child.

The Mum Club is one of our most popular ways to connect. It seeks to empower, educate, and support mums through their parenting journey.

Since launching last year, it has connected with hundreds of mums and their bubs. The Mum Club has been able to bring a sense of community to these mums through a variety of activities both onsite and elsewhere.

If you know someone who could benefit from being part of The Mum Club, find out more here.

Womens’ Wellness Workshops

One of our goals is to provide opportunities for women in our community to learn new skills and to learn different strategies to overcome life’s challenges. We do this through hosting workshops on a variety of different topics. They are run by presenters that have expertise in the topics they present on and are open to all women. So far we have run workshops on Sleep Health, PTSD & Trauma and Looking after your Money and there will be many more to come!

All workshops are advertised in our shop and on our socials.

Event Space

Our beautiful space has attracted all sorts of groups wanting to hold various events. From book launches to information nights, women’s breakfasts and events for various social groups like “the run club”, our space has been a popular place for groups. It not only looks beautiful but uses all profits to help women in crisis. If you are looking for a beautiful space with a delicious, tailored menu for your next event please contact us via the contact tab on our website www.hopehouse.au
